Fiber Internet is Coming

Arriva, formerly Bruce Telephone Company and We Connect Communications, has received funding through the Capital Projects Fund and The Office of Broadband Expansion & Accessibility of Mississippi (BEAM) to provide the Buckhorn and western New Houlka areas with gigabit-speed internet service. Construction will be underway by mid August, and customer installations should begin in the fall. This nearly $3 million investment will provide multi-gig capable access to hundreds of new unserved homes in Calhoun and Pontotoc Counties.

The construction and installation is free* if you register below by 12-31-2025. After this date, and once the project is complete, any construction costs will need to be covered by the homeowner.

What to expect with the construction process.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to the work contractors will be performing, and answers to some of your most frequently asked questions . Each phase is designed to ensure a smooth and efficient installation of your new fiber-optic connection.

Locating is a process completed before construction where the crew will locate utility lines before digging. This process is a mandated state requirement. Locating existing underground utility lines will prevent those lines from being accidentally damaged during the construction of a new fiber-optic network. Existing underground utilities (if any) will be marked using temporary spray paint, colored flags, or other markers to prevent damage and service impacts.

Contractors will place the fiber-optic cable underground in your area. This process will follow the main roads in the right of way. You will see orange pipes sticking out of the ground while we are under construction.

After the main construction happens, Arriva will construct what is called a drop line to your home. This line is what connects the electronics on the outside of your house to the main fiber along the road. Workers will connect (splice) the fiber. This process involves melting the two strands of fiber (your drop line and the main fiber line) together. You do not have to be home for this process.
After your drop line has been constructed and our team has installed the equipment on the outside of the house, you will be ready for installation! Once you have signed up for services and completed our application for service, you will be contacted by an Arriva team member to schedule your installation so it’s important that your email and cell phone number provided is up to date.

Someone 18 years or older will have to be at your home for the installation.

As we get close to digging near individual homes, it will be helpful to be made aware of any invisible fences, underground gas lines/tanks, landscape lighting, French drains, etc. To share this information, please contact us at 662-983-4343 or customerservice@goarriva.com.  Our goal is to ensure a smooth construction process for all residents and knowing this information will help us work around these details.

We expect to begin construction in late summer and it should last through early fall. You may receive postcards and flyers in the mail, visits from our local sales team, or door hangers on your door.

Arriva will provide the super fast fiber speeds below. This service is synchronous (download and upload are the same) and installations are free through the end of the year if you sign up now!
