New 471 Area Code Overlay for the Mississippi 662 Region

The Mississippi Public Service Commission has approved an overlay for the 662 area code region. Beginning January 30, 2026, customers requesting new service or an additional line may receive a number with the new 471 area code, which will serve the same geographic area currently served by 662.

• If you request a new number, you may receive a phone number with a 471 area code. You will keep your existing number, and local calling patterns will not change. You’ll continue to dial 10 digits for all local calls within and between the 662 and 471 area codes.
• What is a local call now, will remain a local call. 
• You will still be able to dial 3 digits such as 911, 988, 811, etc.
